Sustainability, science, and culture took center stage at the 2nd annual Fish Fest, hosted by the University of Guam Center for Island Sustainability and Sea Grant.

Held at the Guam Green Growth Circular Economy Makerspace and Innovation Hub at Chamoru Village, the festival brought together scientists, traditional fishers, government agencies, and local families — all focused on protecting guam’s marine resources.

Anchored to the United Nations Sustainable Development Goal 14: life below water, the event highlighted biodiversity, culture, and the local economy as key pillars of sustainable fisheries.

From talaya demonstrations and fisher storytelling to a fish kelaguen competition and fresh local catches sold by Team Guam Spearfishing, fish fest blended education with island tradition.

Organizers say the goal is simple: pass down generations of knowledge while promoting responsible fishing and food security for Guam’s future.

Community members — including young fishing enthusiasts — turned out to learn, connect, and celebrate the ocean that surrounds us.

A reminder that caring for our reefs today helps ensure they thrive for generations to come.
