Northern residents already expected an extreme wind warning to go into effect, as Category 4 Typhoon Mawar passes over Guam.

The warning includes the northeastern part of Guam until 7:45 p.m.

This means widespread destructive winds of 115 to 140 mph are moving over Yigo and Andersen AFB, extending southward to Dededo, as far as the Micronesia Mall.

The central and southern parts of the island will continue to experience typhoon-force winds but the highest wind speed will be farther north, over Andersen AFB and Ritidian.

According to the National Weather Service Forecast Office Guam, Mawar is now expected to pass just north of Guam this evening as it passes through the Rota Channel between Guam and Rota.

Maximum sustained winds remain at 140 mph and it is expected to maintain this intensity through Thursday.

Meteorologists urge the community to stay inside saying the storm is an extremely dangerous and life-threatening situation.
