Reports of a Chinese aircraft carrier operating in waters near Guam have been confirmed by Joint Region Marianas.

International media report that the carrier Shandong and four other warships were spotted within 370 miles of Guam during drills to encircle Taiwan.

The sighting was first confirmed by the Japanese maritime self-defense force. It was the second such sighting in the last four months.

JRM issued a statement saying, they are "aware of and monitoring the situation, and we are in continuous communication with the governor of Guam and department of Civil Defense and Office of Homeland Security.

It goes on..."we understand the local concerns and the angst that this may cause and we want to assure the community of Guam that the military here remains keenly postured to defend united states equities and interests in this region from any adversary that may threaten national and international norms and rules-based orders."
