The National Weather Service Weather Forecast Office Guam is currently monitoring a shear line over the CNMI and a weak tropical disturbance located south of Guam in eastern Yap state.

Models suggest the disturbance will move west-northwestward, taking it between Yap and Guam, but closer to Yap. Winds north of this disturbance and across the Marianas are 15 to 25 mph, with gusts to 35 mph. Scattered to numerous showers extend north of the disturbance to Guam and Rota, with areas of locally heavy rainfall and isolated thunderstorms.

At this time, no direct threats are expected for the Marianas from the disturbance but numerous showers and an increase in winds and gusts are expected for Guam and Rota. There is also a possibility of locally heavy showers bringing strong to near-gale force gusts today and through tonight.

Residents and visitors are advised to take the following precautionary actions:

  • Those living in flood-prone areas should take action; clear drainage areas and unblock storm drains to minimize flooding
  • Stay up to date with the latest weather information
  • When driving in heavy rain, be alert for low visibilities and slippery roads
  • Slow down where water is ponding on the road

Hazardous surf and seas remain.  Inexperienced swimmers should stay out of the water due to dangerous surf conditions.

The following NWS advisories remain in effect:

  • High Surf Advisory for Guam, Rota, Tinian, and Saipan (8–11 ft surf) until 6 a.m. Tuesday.
  • High Risk of Rip Currents for Guam, Rota, Tinian, and Saipan through late tonight.
  • Small Craft Advisory for Guam, Rota, Tinian, and Saipan coastal waters (winds 15–25 kt; seas 8–11 ft).
