Yigo fire contained, no injuries
At 1:10 Monday afternoon, Guam Fire Department units responded to a reported structure fire on Mendioka Street in Yigo.
Firefighters arrived to find a semi-concrete home with a fire confined to one bedroom. At the time, the home was occupied by seven adults and five children, all of whom were able to safely escape without injury. The Yigo Mayor’s Office and the American Red Cross were activated to assist those affected.
Yigo mayor Frances Lizama shares what her office will be doing to help, telling KUAM News, "Because they dont have running water, basically its a water catchment they have, we have about a 300 gallon water catchment container we are providing that to the family as well as bottled water."
The cause of the fire remains under investigation by Guam Fire Department officials.
