Police funding, staffing, and officer morale will be in the spotlight at an upcoming legislative oversight hearing focused on the Guam Police Department.

The hearing is scheduled for 9 a.m. Friday, January 9, and will be chaired by Sen. Shawn Gumataotao, head of the 38th Guam Legislature Committee on Public Safety, Emergency Management, and Guam National Guard.

Lawmakers will examine preparation for performance-based budgeting, carryover authorization, the status of funded vacancies, and updates to GPD general orders—along with how those policies are affecting employee morale.

Participation will be limited to gpd representatives, but the public is welcome to attend. Written testimony may be submitted through January 8, either to the senator’s mailbox at the Guam Congress Building or by email to office.senatorshawn@guamlegislature.gov.
