Man charged in threatening messages case
A 53-year-old man has been arrested and charged in connection with a November family violence incident involving alleged threats made to a woman. According to court documents, Benjamin Unsiog Charfauros, Jr. was charged Monday with misdemeanor family violence after police say he sent threatening WhatsApp voice messages to the woman following an argument.
The incident began on November 23, when the woman screamed after spotting a snake outside a residence. The scream startled Charfauros, who was standing on a ladder hanging Christmas lights, causing him to fall backward and hit his head. He refused medical treatment at the time.
The following morning, Charfauros accused the woman of pushing him from the ladder. According to the complaint, she left the home to de-escalate the situation, but while driving, she received several threatening voice messages from him.
Police later located Charfauros early Monday morning operating a motorcycle without a proper license or registration. When questioned, investigators say he admitted the woman did not push him and confirmed he sent the threatening messages.
