Fair weather for New Year, showers return this weekend
A shear line moving slowly south through the Northern Marianas is weakening, bringing mostly fair weather to Guam and Rota, with only patchy clouds near Saipan and Tinian.
Forecasters say conditions should remain generally favorable across Guam and the CNMI through the end of the week, though brief clouds or passing showers can’t be ruled out. That means outdoor New Year's celebrations should see cooperative weather.
Looking ahead, another shear line is expected to move into the region later this weekend, bringing stronger winds, increasing seas, and a higher chance of showers starting Sunday and into early next week. Seas and surf are easing for now, but are expected to build again from the north as that next system approaches.
