An investigation is underway surrounding serious allegations of sexual assault of a female student at Southern High School.  The parent of a 9th grade student reported the concerning incident, which they account happened during their child’s 6th period class on or around April 24, while kids were allegedly left unsupervised in the cafeteria due to the absence of a certified teacher. It was also reported that students have spent the majority of the year without supervision during this period.

According to the account, a male student was apparently skipping class in the cafeteria, allegedly going unnoticed by the school aides. From there, the student sat next to the victim and allegedly began inappropriately touching her several times. The victim had tried to stop the student during the alleged assault.

The parent also noted that this happened all while another student captured the incident on video. They also noted that the male student attempted to sit next to the victim again after the matter.

The Guam Department of Education has confirmed they, alongside the Guam Police Department, are aware of the incident, while an investigation is ongoing.

The issue also prompted education oversight chair Senator Vince Borja to write to GDOE superintendent Dr. Kenneth Swanson for immediate action and review of student safety concerns at Southern.
