The chairman of the Governor's Physicians Advisory Group says they never recommended a vaccination mandate for private sector employees. On Friday, Governor Lou Leon Guerrero announced an executive order, which was described as a "restriction of movement" order.
It prohibits the entry of unvaccinated patrons and employees into establishments, with the net effect being the same as a vaccine mandate.
Dr. Hoa Nguyen says that part of the order should be rescinded, telling KUAM News this morning on The Link, "I think that decision of mandating employee to be vaccinated should really need to be changed. I think we have to respect people's choice of getting the vaccine and not getting the vaccine."
"Everyone have the same goal here, to make sure the surge is under control. But there are certain ways that I feel personally that we need to approach things differently, and not violate peoples' right on this one."
He believes the majority of the EO should be revised in order to make it safe for the public, but also safe for businesses to stay open.
Nguyen says he didn't know about the vaccination mandate until he heard about it from the governor's press conference.
