During Tuesday’s Guam Education Board meeting, Guam Department of Education acting superintendent Dr. Judi Won Pat made it clear there will be no “merger” or “co-blending” between the Tiyan High and Simon Sanchez High School communities as a solution to end double-sessions. Won Pat noted while there is space to house the Sharks at the Tiyan campus, the schools will operate separately, with different master schedules, which are currently in preparation.

She said, “They will be operating very separately; they would have all of their staff in place. So all of the staff from Simon Sanchez will move to Tiyan High School, and more than likely, there would be just an imaginary fence, so to speak, where Simon Sanchez will be in one section of the campus, and the other section will be Tiyan High School. They will have separate libraries, separate lounges, actually, everything is separate.”

The superintendent says both schools will keep their uniforms and mascots, labeling the move as “co-locating,” with two different communities in one campus.

In the meantime, weekly meetings between education officials and the principals of F.B. Leon Guerrero Middle School and Simon Sanchez High School are underway.
