Two more whooping cough cases confirmed
The Department of Public Health and Social Services has confirmed two new cases of whooping cough, also known as pertussis, bringing Guam’s total to six confirmed cases for 2026.
Health officials say both recent cases are linked through direct contact, and they continue to monitor respiratory illness trends across the island.
Pertussis is a highly contagious respiratory disease that can cause severe coughing fits, difficulty breathing, and serious complications—especially in infants.
The agency is urging the community to stay up to date with vaccinations, including DTAP and TDAP, which help protect against the disease. Vaccines are available for eligible children through the vaccines for children program at Public Health clinics.
Residents experiencing flu-like or pertussis symptoms are encouraged to contact their healthcare provider.
Health officials emphasize that prevention and early action are key to protecting families and the community.
