Guam - While the Guam Election Commission requires individuals filing candidacy to run for public office to submit a police and court clearance, executive director Maria Pangelinan is looking into whether former governor Carl Gutierrez, who after running as a write-in candidate in the Primary Election for public auditor and now on the General Election ballot will have to submit documents as well.

And considering what has occurred recently with Mangilao mayoral candidate Raymond Mundo submitting documents indicating he was convicted of a misdemeanor thus making him disqualified from running, she's ensuring everyone going into the general election is qualified to do so. "We've asked for legal counsel to provide advice on what is really required of Carl Gutierrez as a candidate for public auditor so we're waiting to see what he says," said Pangelinan.

The GEC will further discuss the matter at its regular meeting next Wednesday.
