Lawmakers, veterans, military members, and community leaders gathered for a proclamation signing of Vietnam Veterans Month.

Director of the Guam Office of Veterans Affairs, Jose San Agustin reflected on the lasting impact of Vietnam veterans, sharing how their service inspired him and honoring those who never returned home.

"Many of them confuse that I’m a Vietnam vet, and there is a good reason for that because the Vietnam vets are the folks that are role models as to the reason why I chose the military. They are the reason why I wanted to give, serve my country because of what you all have done. What you all have done to serve our nation, to serve our country I would like to tell you. While this proclamation signing is a big event, its a small token of actually saying thank you for your service, thank you for your hardships, thank you for your sacrifice," he shared.

"And as this proclamation signing while it  indicates Vietnam veterans I want us to make sure we do not forget those that were not able to make it home. They are a big part of this proclamation signing."

Acting Lieutenant Governor Frank Blas, Jr. acknowledged the challenges Vietnam veterans faced, and the long overdue recognition for their service  and sacrifice.  "So although today we honor, and today we remember what you had gone through, the sacrifice, it pause it to comparison as to what you actually you deserve more," he explained.

The proclamation is a small but meaningful gesture, ensuring the service and sacrifice of Vietnam veterans and those who gave their lives and never returned are not forgotten.
