GUAM WINS! In what was practically a must-win game for Team Guam in the FIBA Asia Cup, our boys hung tough, rode the talents of their stars and pulled-out a victory against a tough team from Syria, winning 82-73. Tai Wesley was a machine in all phases, notching a monster stat line with 21 points, 9 rebounds, 7 assists and 2 blocks. Long-distance sniper Takumi Simon had 15 points, a pair of steals, and was 3 of 7 from downtown for our island boys, while point guard Jericho Cruz matched Wesley's points with 21.
Team Guam is now 1-1 in the tournament, after dropping a heartbreaker to Iran to open Cup play earlier this week.
And with just a day to rest, our next and final matchup in Group B is an epic rematch against Japan, the 21st-ranked men's team in the world. We're running it back against a squad Guam nearly beat 10 months ago in a thriller at the UOG Calvo Fieldhouse, with Guam losing by single digits, 83-78.
You can stream Guam vs. Japan at 9:10pm Sunday (Guam time) at https://www.fiba.basketball/en/events/fiba-asiacup-2025/games/128085-GUM-JPN
