Retrial scheduled in Quinata case

The retrial of Rudy Fegurgur Quinata in the killing of former Humåtak Mayor Daniel Sanchez is moving forward after years of delays.
Quinata appeared in Superior Court on Tuesday via Zoom before Judge Vernon Perez from the Department of Corrections. His 2022 conviction was overturned after the Supreme Court of Guam ordered a new trial, citing concerns over juror misconduct while upholding the sufficiency of the evidence.
Judge Perez set jury selection for Feb. 26 at 9 a.m., with a contested motions hearing scheduled for Feb. 23 at 4 p.m. to resolve evidentiary issues involving prosecution witnesses. The court said final rulings on those matters are expected shortly before jury selection begins.
