The launch of The Great Peskadot by local author—and University of Guam Press’ very own—Cabrini Cruz Palomo was met with an outpouring of warmth and support Sunday afternoon at Ypao Beach Park.

Palomo reading from the story, rooted in island wisdom and sustainable fishing practices, before greeting supporters during a book signing. The afternoon also featured a talaya demonstration and family-friendly activities celebrating culture and community.

It was a proud moment for UOG, with president Dr. Anita Borja Enriquez, the book’s editor Verna Zafra-Kasala, and UOG publicist Via De Fant all sharing in the celebration.

Palomo taking a moment to thank everyone who supported her along the journey, saying,  “I just wanted to say Si Yu’os Ma’ase to every single one of you who showed up today.”

“I’m just so grateful for everyone who pre-ordered–it means the world to me. This is seriously the only thing that I ever wanted to do when I was little, so it’s a dream come true, and I’m so happy to have you all witness that today.”

Congratulations, Cabrini! We are so proud of you!

The Great Peskadot is available now on www.uogpress.com and at local bookstores.
