199 Students earn degrees from UOG in Sunday ceremony
Congratulations are in order for the University of Guam’s newest alumni: 199 students earning their degrees during Sunday’s 2025 Fanuchånan Commencement Ceremony at the UOG Calvo Field House.
Years of hard work, determination, and passion came full circle, as nearly 200 students turned their tassels during the ceremony. In total, 135 students earned their bachelor’s degrees, while 64 completed master’s programs spanning education, health care, public administration, STEM, and business.
Among the graduates was valedictorian and president of the 64th UOG Student Government Association, Keana Ardiente, who reflected on her journey through the university—highlighting the importance of opening doors for first-generation students like herself.
The ceremony also featuring powerful messages from other distinguished speakers, offering guidance to a room filled with the island’s next movers and shakers. Pulitzer Prize-winning photojournalist and visual storyteller Manny Crisostomo delivering the commencement address, reminding graduates of the value of their voices and lived experiences.
“Stories are important. You are important," he said. "And living your story honestly with whatever life throws at you will serve you. But by honoring your narrative and your dreams and your passion and your purpose, may also be of service to others and affect and may improve life on this island. That’s important. You’re important.”
Additionally, international human rights lawyer and author Julian Aguon was awarded an honorary doctor of laws degree—a milestone that the university says aligns with its commitment to justice, sustainability, and regional empowerment.
