GPD, DOC trainees graduate to active duty
They are answering the call to serve—Guam Police and Department of Corrections trainees celebrating graduation day, strengthening the island’s public safety workforce.
In front of family, friends, and island leaders this morning, the Guam Police Department's 15th Police Officer Trainee Cycle and DOC's Basic Corrections Officer Trainee Cycle 2025-01 graduated after undergoing a rigorous seven months of breaking down a civilian and building an officer.
GPD Chief Stephen Ignacio said, "This is a hard profession. But after 38 years, I found that being a police officer is a calling that not many can answer to. Remember no matter how heave the weight is, you don't have to carry that weight all alone. You are surrounded by your fellow officers, can share that weight with you and take that load off of your back."
And DOC director Fred Bordallo, Jr. added, "What can I say to the graduates -never stop your learning...this is training that you had."
Governor Lou Leon Guerrero said, "I want to thank you for really coming up to the task of public service and becoming a police officer, a corrections officer, all in doing your mission of protecting the people with the safety that we need." She then thanked the men and women, for their courage and bravery.
