U.S. Carrier Strike Group 5 steams into Guam
The US Navy’s Carrier Strike Group 5 is in port on Guam. The Nimitz Class aircraft carrier USS George Washington, flagship of Carrier Strike Group 5, pulled into Apra Harbor for a scheduled visit on December 1, accompanied by Carrier Air Wing 5 and the guided-missile destroyer USS Milius.
The Navy calls Guam both the US homeland and a critical hub for command, logistics, and power projection in the Western Pacific.
Rear Admiral Eric Anduze, commander of Task Force 70 and Carrier Strike Group 5, says the visit underscores America’s commitment to security and stability in the Indo-Pacific, adding, “Guam is America, and it is good to be home.”
