Contraband case against Edward Demapan dismissed — fentanyl charges still stand

A superior court case against Edward Glenn Demapan has been dismissed without prejudice, after prosecutors said they could not meet the burden of proof — meaning the charges could be refiled in the future.
Demapan appeared via Zoom before Judge Vernon Perez, facing four counts tied to promoting prison contraband at the Department of Corrections. The case was dropped at the government’s request, though Perez denied the defense’s push to make the dismissal permanent.
The ruling comes as D
emapan remains federally indicted alongside DOC officer Trevor Wolford, accused of distributing fentanyl and a synthetic opioid called N-Pyrrolidino Protonitazene.
Demapan has upcoming hearings in federal court on November 11 and 13, with a trial set for December 10 — separate from the now-dismissed local case.
