Guam Youth Congress pushes to make “Mayor’s Office Recognition Day” law

In a show of unity and appreciation for Guam’s municipal leaders, the Guam Youth Congress has taken formal steps to recognize the vital work of the island’s mayors, vice mayors, and municipal staff.
Vice Speaker Trevan Atoigue presented Resolution 3-35 (COR) to all 19 municipalities last month, designating october 20 as “Mayor’s Office Recognition Day.” Building on that measure, representatives Caden Poblete, Anthony Charfauros, Charlie Balbastro, and Speaker Austin Fortuno joined atoigue in introducing legislation to make the observance an annual law.
The bill seeks to highlight the essential role mayors’ offices play in maintaining village infrastructure, responding to community needs, and fostering unity across Guam.
Representative Poblete said, “They are the heart of all communities on Guam, working tirelessly to fulfill the needs of their residents.”
If enacted, the bill would require the governor to issue a yearly proclamation and establish a committee to organize events in collaboration with each village.
