Traffic stop leads to firearm arrest

A 19-year-old man is facing multiple felony charges after police found an unregistered firearm during a traffic stop in Mangilao.
Court documents state officers stopped a van on Old Price Road early Wednesday morning after noticing both occupants weren’t wearing seatbelts. The passenger, identified as Clayton Aguero Sablan, appeared nervous and tried to walk away toward nearby apartments.
Officers searched the vehicle and found a green camouflage sling bag on the passenger-side floorboard containing a .38 caliber revolver and six .357 bullets. The driver denied ownership, and Sablan initially claimed the gun wasn’t his.
However, at the precinct, Sablan admitted the firearm was his and said he found it the day before along Blas Street in Mangilao. He also admitted he did not have a firearms ID card or registration for the weapon.
Sablan is charged with three third-degree felonies—possession of a firearm without a firearms ID, possession of a concealed firearm without a firearms id, and possession of an unregistered firearm.
