GMHA breaks ground on new parking lot expansion, adding 38 stalls

Circling the Guam Memorial Hospital parking lot may soon be a thing of the past. On Wednesday, the Guam Memorial Hospital Authority broke ground on a project that will add 38 new parking stalls – expected to be completed by May 2026.
Interim GMH CEO and administrator Dr. Joleen Aguon says the lack of parking has long created a barrier to care. “Parking at GMH is critical. Individuals have missed vital medical appointments due to parking constraints, have chosen to forego their medical care due to these parking issues," she stated.
Governor Lou Leon Guerrero says, “Taking care of the hospital’s needs remains a priority as we anticipate the development of a new facility.” She adds that limited parking has added unnecessary stress for families seeking care or visiting loved ones.
And Lieutenant Governor Joshua Tenorio states “it is crucial to invest in our hospital’s facilities to ensure they can effectively cater to the people of Guam.” He believes projects like this one show GMH's ongoing commitment to making healthcare more accessible.
Dr. Aguon also stated, “Increasing parking capacity is a small for some, very large for others, yet a significant step towards better healthcare access for all.”
