The Guam Police Department has confirmed that the death of an inmate found unresponsive inside the Department of Corrections facility in Mangilao is now being investigated as a homicide.

Authorities say 45-year-old Manuel Greg Arriola was discovered lifeless late on June 14 at Post 18 in the DOC compound. CPR was performed and medics responded, but Arriola was later pronounced dead at Guam Memorial Hospital.

According to chief medical examiner Dr. Kenny Su, Arriola sustained multiple blunt force injuries to the head and torso, and his cause of death was ruled as strangulation. The manner of death has been determined to be homicide.

GPD’s Criminal Investigation Division continues to lead the case, and anyone with information is urged to contact Guam Crimestoppers.
