Guam prays for Philippines after deadly quake

Guam’s leaders are calling on the island to unite in prayer for the Philippines following a devastating 6.9-magnitude earthquake that struck Cebu late Tuesday night.
Archbishop Ryan Jimenez is urging Catholics and the wider community to pray for the victims, their families, and the emergency workers risking their lives. Reuters reports at least 69 people have been killed and more than 200 injured.
Governor Lou Leon Guerrero also extended condolences, sending a formal letter of sympathy on behalf of the people of Guam. She emphasized the island’s deep cultural and familial ties to the Philippines, adding Guam stands ready to help in any way possible.
Reports say the epicenter of the earthquake, which was set off by movement in an undersea fault line at a dangerously shallow depth of 3 miles. The earthquake was one of the most powerful to batter the central region in more than a decade and it struck while many people slept or were at home.
As relief efforts continue, both the Archdiocese of Agana and Adelup encourage the community to respond with compassion, solidarity, and prayer.
