Amid the dieldrin water contamination crisis in Yigo, the Guam Waterworks Authority says only one well—Y-15—is operating with elevated levels.

In a statement, GWA general manager Miguel Bordallo clarified, “Previous reports from various government and media outlets have reported two operating wells with elevated dieldrin levels, which is an error. All other wells operating in the northern and central water systems, and water sources for the southern water system are not impacted by Well Y-15 and are providing water which remains below the Guam EPA interim action level for dieldrin and in compliance with drinking water regulations.”

Bordallo added that GWA is working closely with the Yigo Mayor’s Office to provide both drinking and cooking water to impacted customers and “continues to monitor the entire water distribution system to ensure safe drinking water is distributed islandwide.”
