The Guam Department of Education recognizes three outstanding teachers that were recognized by the 38th Guam Legislature for being named state finalists in the 2025 Presidential Awards for Excellence in Mathematics and Science Teaching, the nation’s highest honor for K-12 STEM educators.

Senator Vincent V.A Borja, Chairman of the Committee on Education, honored the following finalists:

  1. Colette Beausoliel (John F. Kennedy High School) – Science Finalist
  2. Elaine Cortez (Simon Sanchez High School) – Mathematics Finalist
  3. Mark Villaverde (Vincente S.A. Benavente Middle School) – Mathematics Finalist

The event was attended by GDOE Superintendent, along with school administrators, colleagues, family members and friends who celebrated the honorees’ accomplishments.

The PAEMST program, administered by the National Science Foundation on behalf of the White House Office of Science and Technology Policy, recognizes outstanding educators for their contributions to teaching and learning in mathematics and science. Each year, state finalists represent the highest standards of instructional excellence and leadership in STEM education.

This recognition highlights the remarkable talent within GDOE’s teacher force and underscores Guam’s commitment to nurturing innovative, world-class educators who prepare students for the challenges of the future.
