PBS Guam announced today that its original documentary, Something to Call Our Own: A CHamoru Dance Story, has been officially selected to compete at the Pacific Island Film Festival New York City 2025, with a festival screening confirmed for Sept. 20 in New York City.

The film chronicles the Guam dance delegation’s journey at the 13th Festival of Pacific Arts & Culture (FestPAC) - the world’s largest gathering of Indigenous Pacific artists and culture-bearers - capturing the precision, discipline, and spirit of CHamoru dance on an international stage.

Produced by PBS Guam, the documentary underscores the station’s mission to preserve, elevate, and share Guam’s cultural heritage through high-quality public media.

“This selection is a milestone for Guam and a tribute to the artists who carry our traditions forward,” said Ina Carillo, General Manager at PBS Guam. “Documenting the delegation at FestPAC was about more than performance - it was about identity, language, and the living practice of CHamoru culture. We’re grateful to PIFFNYC for the platform and proud to represent Guam.”

“We set out to make a film that feels like home,” said Niel Darren Romero, Director. “At FestPAC, we witnessed how dance can hold history and hope in the same movement. We’re honored to share that story with audiences in New York and beyond.”
