In Yigo, the cages are overflowing with adoptable pets waiting for a second chance at a forever home. And this August, you can help make that happen.

Guam Animals In Need is joining hundreds of shelters across America for Clear The Shelters Month, a national campaign led by NBC Universal, aimed at finding permanent homes for thousands of pets at shelters.

“So we currently have 30 pets up for adoption, across adult dogs, puppies, kitties and cats. We get new animals in the shelter every single day, and we have our website updated with who’s in,” said Kiara Elie, GAIN’s new Humane Coordinator.

To encourage adoptions, all month long gain is offering reduced adoption fees, giveaways and themed promos.

“Typically adoptions are $125, but this month it would be $100,” said Elie.

On Meowy Mondays, adult cat adoptions are $60, Waggin Wednesdays come with a free gain collar and leash with every adoption and on Furry Fridays, microchip your pet for just $7.

GAIN relies on community support, not just for adoptions, but through donations, foster programs and volunteers like Elie.

“I really love animals and I know Guam has a lot of animals. Just helping find them homes is what really aligns with my passions,” said Elie.

KUAM asked, “What does Clear the Shelters month mean for you?”

“It means to find these sweet babies amazing and loving homes because they’re so worth all the love, all the affection and finding someone who can share that with them,” added Elie.

In Guam, where there are more stray animals than families, every adoption frees up room for another rescue

Join the Yigo animal shelter for the big celebration on Aug. 30 from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. for a family-friendly event.

There'll be food trucks, carabao rides, arts and craft vendors, raffle prizes, animal control demonstrations and much more.

“See all of our adoptable pets and we’ll also have vendors and a lot of fun things going on here at the animal shelter,” said Elie.

Whether it’s these two little ones or another furry friend, there’s no better time than now to open your heart and your home. At GAIN, every adoption saves a life.
