Today marks 28 years since one of the darkest mornings in our island’s history.

A solemn ceremony was held at Nimitz Hill, where Korean Air flight 801 tragically crashed on August 6, 1997.

More than 220 lives were lost that day, sons and daughters, parents and friends. Forever etched in the hearts of their loved ones and this island community.

At the site where sorrow once echoed, families, island leaders, and first responders gathered to remember, to reflect, and to honor.

Wreaths were laid, prayers were offered, and emotions still ran deep, nearly three decades later.

For the survivors and the families of those who didn’t make it home, the pain has not faded, but neither has the love.

And while time may pass, Guam remembers. Always.
