The University of Guam’s Center for Island Sustainability and Sea Grant, along with the Guam Restoration of Watersheds Initiative, hosted a community tree planting event at the Ugum watershed site on Saturday.

Dozens of volunteers, including students, conservationists, and local residents, joined forces to restore damaged land and help prevent erosion and runoff that threaten Guam's rivers and coral reefs.

Organizers say over 1,200 trees were planted in just three hours.

The event was part of the GROW initiative, which encourages community action for sustainable development and offers service-learning opportunities for youth.

The next tree planting event is set for Sept. 6.\
