Airport drug bust: Woman caught with meth hidden in shoes

A 56-year-old woman is facing serious prison time after authorities say she tried to smuggle methamphetamine through the airport.
Virginia Pua Nani Mokiao was charged with importation of a schedule II controlled substance as a first-degree felony following her arrest over the weekend.
According to a magistrate’s complaint, a Customs and Quarantine detector dog alerted Customs of Mokiao during a secondary inspection on Saturday. When asked if she had any prohibited items, she replied “no,” but a search of her luggage told a different story.
Officers allegedly found multiple clear bags of methamphetamine concealed inside shoes. Mokiao admitted to having meth, marijuana, and drug paraphernalia in her possession.
She’s being held on $5,000 cash bail and faces up to 15 years in prison if convicted.
