The Marianas mourns the passing of Governor Arnold I. Palacios

With heavy hearts and profound sorrow, we share the news of the passing of the Honorable Arnold Indalecio Palacios, Governor of the Commonwealth of the Northern Mariana Islands.
Governor Palacios departed this life peacefully on the evening of Wednesday, July 23, 2025, surrounded by his loved ones. A pillar of strength and service for more than 30 years, he led with grace, humility, and unwavering dedication to the people of the Marianas.
From his beginnings in the CNMI Legislature to his time as Speaker, Senate President, Lieutenant Governor, and ultimately Governor, he championed good governance, environmental stewardship, and cultural pride—always putting his people first.
Acting Governor David M. Apatang honors his dear friend with these words: “I am deeply in sorrow and I join Wella and the families’ grief during this time of mourning as we pray and remember my friend, Governor Palacios, for his sacrifice and life of public service for all.”
The CNMI flag will fly at half-staff in solemn tribute. In the coming days, memorial details will be announced.
Let us honor his legacy by living the values he embodied—unity, compassion, and service to one another.
We send our love and prayers to First Lady Wella Palacios, their children and grandchildren, and all who mourn this extraordinary leader.
