The 2026 election is looking to be an interesting race as the list of gubernatorial candidates grows.  After a photo posted by radio talk show host Ray Gibson hinted at the new candidates, Vice Speaker Tony Ada has unofficially confirmed with KUAM in a phone call that he is running for governor, with EJ Calvo as his running mate.

"Yes, unofficially, myself and EJ Calvo are running for governor and lt. Governor. We are looking forward to have an official announcement come out. We hope the people will follow our campaign, our campaign for change. This is always for putting Guam first," he said.

Ada was a private businessman for over 16 years before turning to public service.

The republican senator served in the 30th Guam Legislature, the minority whip in the 31st Guam Legislature, and the minority leader in the 32nd and 33rd Guam legislatures.

On the other hand, Calvo spent many years as a distribution manager, an events promoter and is the men’s head coach at the Guam National Basketball Confederation.

Meantime, Senator Joe San Agustin and Lieutenant Governor Josh Tenorio have separately declared their bid for governor under the democratic ticket.

Ada joins Speaker Frank Blas, Jr. and former senator Marcel Camacho in the race for governor under the republican ticket.
