As Liberation Day celebrations continue stateside, the White House has issued a statement honoring the courage of the more than 1,200 troops and over 1,000 residents who fought to free our island 81 years ago.

President Donald Trump stated, "Our nation proudly honors the strength, courage, and unbreakable resilience of every hero of liberty who gallantly fought to free the people of Guam", adding, "To this day, the liberation of Guam remains etched upon history as a bold reassertion of american sovereignty at a time when our future and our freedom were in peril."

Meanwhile in Congress, delegate James Moylan has introduced a resolution for July 21 to be officially recognized as Guam Liberation Day nationwide. He emphasizes that, "Too often, Guam's history has been treated as a footnote, but the resilience, strength, and contributions of our people during such a dark and difficult time deserve to be remembered for generations to come."

A reminder that while Liberation Day may be rooted in Guam, its meaning and message of freedom resonates across the nation.
