Congressman Moylan pushes for national observance of Guam Liberation Day

A push for national recognition as Congressman James Moylan has introduced a resolution to officially recognize July 21, 2025, as Guam Liberation Day across the United States.
House Resolution 545 calls on the President to proclaim July 21st as a day of remembrance, honoring the resilience of Guam’s people, the sacrifices of American troops, and the end of Japanese occupation during World War II.
The resolution highlights Guam’s suffering, strength, and recovery, urging that the island’s wartime experience be acknowledged not as a footnote, but as a vital chapter of American history.
“Guam’s people endured unimaginable hardship during the occupation, yet they emerged with courage and unity that laid the foundation for the island’s strength and recovery,” said Congressman Moylan. “This resolution honors both our Greatest Generation and the U.S. forces whose selflessness brought liberation to our shores.”
“Too often, Guam’s history has been treated as a footnote,” added Congressman Moylan. “But the resilience, strength, and contributions of our people during such a dark and difficult time deserve to be remembered for generations to come.”
