Judge hands down sentence in deadly Dededo attack

A young man involved in the deadly 2022 group assault that claimed the life of 24-year-old Kifirstson Kam Aiken has been sentenced. 22-year-old Dero Itsy was ordered to serve one year in prison - the maximum allowed under a plea deal for 3rd -degree aggravated assault.
He’s already served two months and must turn himself in August 1 to serve the rest.
Superior Court Judge Vernon Perez also reduced the conviction to a misdemeanor, citing Itsy’s age, remorse, and clean record.
Itsy was just 18 when he joined the group attack in the parking lot of Dededo Center. The primary assailant, Samson Shapucy, was sentenced last year to over 12 years in prison for manslaughter.
Addressing the court through an interpreter, Itsy apologized to the victim’s family and promised it would never happen again.
Judge Perez told him to focus on completing his term and parole successfully.
