Melanie Mendiola nominated to Guam Memorial Hospital Authority Board

The Guam Memorial Hospital Authority Board of Trustees could be welcoming a new member to their ranks very soon.
Melanie Mendiola, former Guam Economic Development Authority CEO/Administrator, has been nominated to the board, bringing with her an extensive background in economics, finance, and strategic planning.
senators held a public hearing Thursday to hear her plans should she be confirmed during session.
GMH Administrator Lilian Posadas also attended to offer her full support for Mendiola.
Meanwhile, Mendiola says she’s ready to help the hospital plan ahead, not just catch up.
“If we can all accept that GMH will not be in the black for the foreseeable future, if we’re going to be planning for the red,I want to know how much lead time we have to get prepared,” said Mendiola. “There are some gap-filling measures that are being proposed through the rural heal fund, but from my perspective with grant funding, anytime you have new grant funding, that’s great and it does fill the gaps, but sometimes the lead time is a little bit further out.”
Mendiola also addressed staffing costs and outsourcing, suggesting careful review of non-medical operations like security and food services while protecting jobs for long-time public employees.
So as concerns mount over Medicaid cuts and federal uncertainty, Mendiola says she’s prepared to ask tough questions, drive strategy, and step in where it counts.
