A leadership transition at Marine Corps Base Camp Blaz marks a new chapter for the island’s newest military installation.

In a formal change of command ceremony, Col. Ernest Govea officially handed over leadership of Camp Blaz to Col. Richard D. Marshall Jr. on Thursday.

The event was attended by military leaders, government officials, and community members from Guam and the region.

Col. Govea, who has led Camp Blaz since July 2023, was recognized for spearheading major infrastructure growth and strengthening Marine readiness on Guam.

He said, “Establishing Camp Blaz was about laying a foundation for the future of our force in the Indo-Pacific.”

Incoming commander Col. Marshall praised Govea’s leadership and pledged to carry forward the mission of the base while continuing to build strong local ties.

The ceremony also featured music from the Guam Army National Guard’s 721st band and included dignitaries from Guam, the CNMI, and regional partners.
