A solemn but powerful milestone in honoring Guam’s greatest generation. Congressman James Moylan introduced House Resolution 545, formally recognizing June 28 as War Survivor Remembrance Day.

The resolution pays tribute to the resilience, sacrifice, and unshakable spirit of the Chamorro people who endured years of occupation, brutality, and loss under Japanese forces during World War II.

Moylan stating, "Guam’s survivors endured unimaginable hardship, yet they emerged with courage and unity" adding "their strength rebuilt our island—and their stories shaped who we are today."

"To the Greatest Generation, thank you for persevering and rebuilding our community on the foundation of family and cultural virtues. Words will never fully capture the intensity of your experiences but know our gratitude is immense."

From forced labor to starvation, displacement to violence—this resolution ensures those painful truths are never forgotten. Instead, they are etched into the nation’s memory, as a commitment to remember and honor.

It is more than just a day—it is a promise: that the suffering and strength of Guam’s war survivors will echo through every generation.
