Guam lawmakers are demanding action after Guam was left out of the latest federal Radiation Compensation Bill.

Congressman James Moylan and Senator Therese Terlaje met with members of the Pacific Association for Radiation Survivors, or PARS, this week. They joined forces to urge congress to include Guam in the reauthorization of the Radiation Exposure Compensation Act, or RECA.

The current proposal, introduced by Senator Josh Hawley, excludes Guam, despite years of advocacy and evidence of nuclear fallout impacts from the U.S. testing in the Pacific.

Moylan called the exclusion “deeply disappointing” and says he’ll be reaching out to Speaker Mike Johnson directly.

Sen. Terlaje says every branch of local government must unite to help pass a bill that finally brings equity and relief to Guam's cancer patients.

With congressional negotiations still underway, both lawmakers say the fight isn’t over.
