Former helicopter company owner sentenced to federal prison for criminal aviation violations

A major sentencing in federal court as a Guam businessman faces decades behind bars. John D. Walker, former owner of Hansen Helicopters, was sentenced to 405 months in prison - nearly 34 years - after a sweeping fraud scheme that endangered lives across the Pacific.
A federal jury convicted walker on 110 counts, including conspiracy to defraud the Federal Aviation Administration and National Transportation Safety Board, aircraft parts fraud resulting in death and serious injury, money laundering, and wire fraud. Prosecutors say walker used fake parts and uncertified mechanics to build unsafe helicopters, putting tuna boat crews and pilots at deadly risk, all while raking in over $400 million.
Walker forfeited more than $70 million and was hit with hefty fines and penalties. His company, hansen helicopters, was also convicted and fined $4.9 million.
Federal agents say Walker’s greed cost lives and violated public trust, but justice has finally been served.
