Marine Corps Base Camp Blaz relief ceremony for Sgt. Major Daniel A. Soto

A historic chapter at Marine Corps Base Camp Blaz came to a close today as Sergeant Major Daniel A. Soto relinquished his duties as the installation’s first senior enlisted leader.
Soto made history when he took the role in 2023, becoming the first-ever Sergeant Major for Camp Blaz since its activation.
In his final address, Soto praised the young marines who stand the watch daily, crediting them for safeguarding the Indo-Pacific and uplifting the marine corps’ presence on Guam.
Over his tenure, Soto was instrumental in the base’s operational stand-up, the arrival of marines from Okinawa, and improvements to quality of life and readiness.
He was honored with a meritorious service medal and inducted into the prestigious order of Saint Barbara.
Camp Commander Colonel Ernest Govea praised Soto’s leadership and legacy, calling him the "soul of the base" and thanking him for setting a standard that will "endure for years to come."
Soto will next serve as the senior enlisted leader for marine aviation training support group 23.
An appointment ceremony for his successor will be held later this year.
