A man is under arrest, accused in a violent assault that left a woman hospitalized and her children in shock.

Police responded to a home in Yona Monday afternoon and found the woman unconscious, as her children cried out for help.

Officers learned the suspect, Vicente Cory San Nicolas Mantanona, allegedly punched the woman several times in the head, slammed her into a wall multiple times, and struck her repeatedly with a guitar.

Medics treated the victim for serious head injuries before transporting her to the hospital. Investigators later found what appeared to be blood spatter on the walls, evidence of the brutal attack.

Mantanona had fled the scene, but was spotted less than 30 minutes later.

Officers who recognized him from previous encounters quickly arrested Mantanona without incident.
