Island Feels in the Hills returns with its second concert this weekend with a strong lineup of reggae bands from various generations!

Leo Palace Resort Guam is set to host reggae big names like the headliner Ekolu, the boys of High Watah, Johnny Suite, and Guam’s very own KPV.

Ahead of the concert, these bands shared what it means to them to be able to put on a show for the people on Guam.

“I think for me, the only thing I knew was music. Ever since I was growing up, everything was in church at first and the family parties at home. That just grew onto me and pretty much got to this. Music is all I’ve knew, I’ve never anything else in my life but music,” said Lukela Keala, leader singer and co-founder of Ekolu.

“Music was always embedded in me. I have family that have been in the music industry,” said Johnny Suite. “Right out of high school, my cousins…they would come to the clubs while I was bouncing, and they would gig. They would always tell me, ‘Oh you don’t like sing?’ and I was like, ‘Ah, I don’t know.’ I was a little too afraid to start a new dream all over again. But praise God that they pushed me and made me, put me in place I never I’d be.”

High Watah’s Lewa Davis-Medija shared to a younger audience, “If there’s that one thing you feel is calling you, you should just do it. And don’t let yourself or other people tell you otherwise.”

And Guam’s own star, KPV, shared how she deals with creative blocks, crediting “No Fear” by Madison Ryann Ward, adding she always has that one song and her faith in God that calms her worries.

KPV also hinted during the press conference that original music could be part of their set at tomorrow’s Island Feels in the Hills 2.
