Guam Police Department confirms internal affairs investigation has been launched

Cards on the table as the Guam Police Department confirms it’s launched an internal affairs investigation after officers were allegedly caught playing cards while on duty, inside a precinct.
Sources tell KUAM news the officers have already been reassigned, as the department tries to figure out just how far this hand was played.
So far, no one’s come forward to say money was on the line.
Still, GPD isn’t betting on silence in a statement issued to media on Wednesday, GPD Spokesperson Norman Analista said, “Playing cards while on duty is not an authorized activity and is not the best use of a police officer’s time.”
He adds that the department has officially launched an internal investigation and is reminding all personnel to fold distractions on the job from card games to scrolling through social media.
Analista says access to digital platforms has become easier but that usage must not interfere with officers’ responsibilities.
The timing of the scandal?
It landed right after GPD closed out Police Week. Now, top brass are working to make sure no one’s playing games with public trust.
With many commenting on KUAM’s Facebook and Instagram
Lorrissa Bamba on IG saying : “I thought the raises they got were supposed to be the reason they've been working hard to catch criminals? So what's really going on with the system?”
John Camacho on FB saying: “I know it's not every one of them, but you can't blame the people for being frustrated with police response time when you find out things like this.”
Pete Guerrero on FB: “More manpower justification!”
Mani Meiho on FB: “The police are working so hard and facing dangerous actions, why not let them play what they want to relieve stress.”
No word yet on how many officers are being investigated or how long the probe will take.
