Department of Public Works launches islandwide pavement improvement projects

The Department of Public Works has started road improvements on several major routes, including Route 2A, Route 8, Route 14A, Route 30A, and Route 32.
These projects are taking place across the villages of Santa Rita, Mangilao, Mongmong-Toto-Maite, and Tamuning.
Crews will be working on approximately 4.78 miles of roadway.
Improvements include milling the old pavement up to 3 inches deep, making necessary repairs to damaged sections, adjusting manholes, laying new asphalt, and adding fresh striping and raised pavement markers for improved safety and visibility.
The total cost of the project is just over $1.5 million and is funded by the Federal Highway Administration.
“As we invest in rebuilding our roads, we’re investing in the very arteries that keep our island economy moving,” said Governor Lou Leon Guerrero. “These roads connect families to schools and hospitals, workers to job sites, and businesses to customers. Restoring them is not just about smoother pavement but about strengthening the flow of commerce and the rhythm of daily life on Guam.”
“Our roads are essential to everything from economic development to emergency response,” said Lt. Governor Josh Tenorio. “By improving these key corridors, we’re not only enhancing safety and mobility, we’re laying the foundation for continued growth. We thank our community for their patience and understanding as we move forward with these critical projects.”
Residents and motorists are advised to remain cautious and aware of potential traffic impacts in these areas as construction progresses.
