Recognizing 72 young artists islandwide, Senator Shelly Calvo presented legislative certificates at the Guam Congress Building as part of Youth Art Month 2025.

The contest, which ran throughout the month of March, welcomed student submissions from grades K through 12 and challenged youth to visually express how colors can represent hope, resilience, and healing.

Students from public, private, and charter schools submitted paintings, drawings, mixed media, and digital artwork inspired by this year’s theme.

“Art has the power to connect hearts, inspire communities, and give voice to our emotions. I am amazed by the depth of talent and personal stories that these students shared through their work,” said Calvo, who chairs the Committee on Child Welfare, Youth Affairs, the Arts, and Culture.

“Their creativity reminds us of the strength and healing power found in color and expression,” added Calvo.

First-place winners from each school category are:

  • Elementary School: Eliana Ryann Singh, iLearn Academy Charter School
  • Middle School: Amanda D. Salomon, Santa Barbara Catholic School
  • High School: Haley Grace Garrido, Southern High School

All participating students received Certificates of Recognition from the 38th Guam Legislature, with the top winners awarded $250 in cash plus a separate art supply donation presented to their respective school.

Participating schools were also recognized for supporting student creativity and emotional wellness through the arts.

The winning artworks will be displayed throughout the month of May at the Guam Congress Building in Hagåtña for the public to view and enjoy.
