A proclamation signing was held this morning in Adelup recognizing May 4 through May 10 as National Corrections And Employees Week.

Flanked by officers and staff from DOC, acting Governor Joshua Tenorio began his remarks by acknowledging that the men and women of DOC are people who take on some of the toughest, most important work in public service.

Adding that behind the walls and out of the spotlight, they protect lives, maintain order, and help those in custody get a second chance at life. He says they do it with grit, professionalism, and deep commitment to our island.

Tenorio also addressed the recent federal investigation involving a DOC officer as serious and troubling.

“When public trust is broken, it impacts everyone—it shakes confidence and raises tough but necessary questions. But we must also be clear: one individual’s misconduct does not define this department. It doesn’t erase the years of honorable service from officers who show up every day and do the right thing. We will hold people accountable—and we will keep supporting those who never waver in their duty,” said Tenorio.

After, a promotion ceremony was held for those promoted to Correctional Officer Sgt.

Also throughout the week, there will be activities for the community starting off with   a static display at the Guam Premier Outlet on Saturday, May 3.
